Abstract:
In this paper, we address the issue of interoperability for regional databases of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). Work carried out in the INTERREG IIIB MEDOCC “MEDINS” Project aimed to apply a common cataloguing system as an application of the UNESCO 2003 ICH Convention. The project activity “Multimedia Labora-tories” offered an alternative approach, with a simplified, navigation-oriented web service capable of incorporating Web 2.0 features while aggregating items from different regional databases in an intercultural context. The co-design development process of the prototype is described, and the XML code defined to link to data from different sources is illustrated. In conclusion, lessons learned and future development issues are set forth.
